Never played guitar? Want to know how to play guitar? Do you love music? If you never touched a guitar, been playing guitar forever, or want to be a rock star this course is a great place to start your music education or continue building your skills. No prior music experience is needed. Learn the fundamentals of music and the basic skills necessary to play a wide variety of music styles including simple and full-strum chords, strumming patterns, playing/singing simple melodies, parts of the guitar, and ensemble skills, and explore the careers of significant musicians in varied genres. Student guides, Carlos and Summer, will guide you through each step of this journey toward becoming a skilled guitarist and musician.

Module One: Let's Play Guitar

-Three basic types of guitars and their parts

-How to care for your guitar

-How to hold your guitar

-How to tune your guitar

-How to read and interpret guitar tablature


Module Two: Let's Rock

-How classical guitar influences and impacts rock guitarists

-Techniques of basic strumming and plucking

-How to read and interpret fretboard diagrams

-Improvisation

-Intellectual property


Module Three: Strumming Chords

-Chord progressions

-Change chords while playing with a steady beat

-How changes in chord quality impact a composition's mood

-Strategies for strumming fewer than six strings


Module Four: Reading Guitar Music

-Standard music notation

-Nasic rhythm values

-Read and play two- and three-note melodies using standard music notation

-Recognize rhythm values through listening

-Transfer a melody from standard music notation to tablature
